- Population of Punjab constitute 2.29% of total population of India.
- Average population density of Punjab (551 per sq km) higher than national population density (382 per sq km).
- The decadal population growth rate decreased sharply from 20.10 % during 1991 – 2001 to 13.73% during 2001-2011 (National average:17%).
- With population density of 975 per sq km Ludhiana remains most populous district of Punjab.
- High population densities of Industrial districts of the state i.e. Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar could be due to continuous migration and resettlement of workforce from other states especially U.P. and Bihar.
