  • Participation in National Interaction cum Evaluation Workshop for ENVIS Centres from 17th - 19th February, 2016 at New Delhi

Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India organised National Interaction-cum-Evaluation Workshop of 68 ENVIS Centres at New Delhi from February 17th to 19th Feb., 2016. ENVIS Centre Team, PSCST consisting Mr. Gurharminder Singh, Senior Scientific Officer & ENVIS Coordinator, Ms. Ravleen, Senior Programme Officer and Dinesh Saini, Project Associate-IT participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Environment, Forest & Climate Change, GoI. The ENVIS Portal which will be a guiding force behind functioning as well as monitoring of ENVIS Network Centres was also launched on the occasion by Hon’ble Minister. A session on ‘Bharat Maps’, a geospatial tool for the website was also held during the inaugural session.  Mr. Ashok Lavasa, Secretary MOEFCC, Ms. Anandi Subramanian, Senior Economic and Shri Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, World Wildlife Fund India also addressed the participants during the inaugural session. An exhibition on the information products and capacity building materials prepared by all the ENVIS Centres was also organized on the occasion.

 

Further, the evaluation of the functioning of the ENVIS Centres as per the guidelines of the ENVIS Scheme was conducted by the expert committee in concurrent sessions on the basis of website content, updation frequency, traffic flow and reports /documents downloaded. ENVIS Team, PSCST gave detailed online presentation of the website along with the other activities conducted by the Centre during the last one year based on the comments received from expert committee at Regional Evaluation Workshop held at FRI, Dehradun. Expert committee appreciated the contents of the ENVIS website and activities undertaken by our ENVIS Centre during 2015-16.

 

The exhibition of ENVIS Centre was shifted to Indira Parayavaran Bhawan (MoEFCC, Delhi) for general public on February 18-19, 2016.

  • Publication of Newsletter

Newsletter titled “International Environmental Conventions: An Indian Perspective” (Vol. 13, Issue No. 3) was published by the ENVIS Centre. The article covers the landmark International Environmental Conventions/ Agreements. This Newsletter seeks to provide a cohesive perspective on the major Conventions / International Environmental Agreements to which India is party, along with India’s progress so far in implementing these conventions/ agreements at the National level. It is hoped that this Newsletter will be useful to practitioners, academicians, NGOs, students, and others interested in the global environmental scenario and India’s position therein.

  • Launching of ENVIS wall at State Council for Educational Research & Training (SCERT)
ENVIS Centre had established ENVIS wall at SCERT office at Mohali with an objective to spread information related to state environment issues and to publicize ENVIS Centre’s website. The state environment related information has been put up in simple language in form of posters, panels etc. for the information of general public on the wall. The wall was inaugurated on 4th March, 2016 by S. Balbir Singh Dhol, Director Public Instructions- Secondary, Punjab. About 40 officials from SCERT and Punjab School Education Board were present during the event. An interactive session was also organized, wherein, Ms. Shruti Shukla, Deputy Director SCERT, Mr. Gurharminder Singh, Senior Scientific Officer, PSCST and Ms. Ravleen, Senior Programme Officer deliberated on the state environment & related issues. A day long exhibition was also organized by the ENVIS Centre at SCERT premises for the employees and visitors. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal (IAS) Director General, School Education inaugurated the exhibition. The efforts of the Centre, SCERT & RCE partners were highly appreciated by all and the Centre was suggested to setup such walls at district level also.
