Punjab ENVIS Hub, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology being the stalwart in disseminating information to protect & conserve environment within the region celebrated World Environment Daywith ecstatic spirits on the theme “Eco-system Restoration” in collaboration with Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidilaya(HMV)Institution by involving its Collegiate Sr. Sec. School and Collegein Jalandhar.
Various online and inter-school competitions were conducted in the region from 3rd to 5th June, 2021 in order to sensitize the students about environment conservation, its restoration and sustainable development. 450 students from different schools of Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Tarn-Taran and Ludhiana districts along with Jamshedpur participated vigorously and show cased their artistic outlook by following the tagline of the events- “Reimagine, Recreate and Restore” in the following online competitions:
Trash to Treasure competition: The competition was organized to encourage students to recycle & reuse products and to contribute less towards waste generation. 65students participated in the competition with following students as winners:
- Manayata of Swami Sant Dass Public School, Jalandharsecured the first position
- Sudipaof HMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School and Jayanti Bansal of DAV Public School, Pakhowal, Ludhiana secured the second and the third positions respectively.
Slogan Writing competition: The competition was held with a objective to ignite the fire of imagination and creativity in the students.120 students participated in the competition and wrote slogans in english & Punjabi. Following students were the winners:
- The first position was bagged by Samridhi Garg of DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana
- Harsimar Singh Chaggar of DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road secured the second position
- The third position was won by Kritika of Swami Sant Dass Public School, Jalandhar.
One Minute Video Message competition:In this competition students made one-minutevideo by recording their personal messages (in English or Hindi or Punjabi) on current year’s WED theme. 60 students submitted their videos and following students were declared winners:
- Arsheen Kaur of Swami Sant Dass Public School, Jalandhar attained the first position
- Tanvi of DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana secured the second position
- The third position was attained by Pragati of Swami
Poster Making competition:In the competition, students were asked to express their ideas through paintings and sketches in the posters. 200 young learners displayed their artistic skills through an array of posters. Students participated in the competition with immense zeal and enthusiasm and made beautiful posters with following students as winners:
- Shrishti Nautiyal of B.S.F. Sr.Sec. School bagged the first position
- Ayush Kumar Jha of DAVPublic School Bistupur, Jamshedpur won the second position
- Manjot of Swami Sant Dass Public School, Jalandhar attainedthe third position.
- The consolation was awarded to MehakChopra of HMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School and Musahida ofGovt.Girls Sr.Sec. School,Nehru GardenJalandhar.

A plantation drive was also conducted in & around HMV campus, Jalandhar by planting different medicinal and ornamental plants to mark the special significance of WED.
A webinar on theme “Environment Conservation and Sustainability” was organised on May 07, 2021 for college students and 100 participants attended the same.Expert talks were presented by Dr. Adarsh Pal, Director HRDC, GNDU, Amritsar on “Biodiversity Restoration in Punjab and by Dr. Chander Prakash, IKGPTU, Kapurthala on the topic “Environment Conservation & Sustainable Development”. A virtual tour of Green Campus of HMV was provided to participants to motivate them further for green steps.An online Award Ceremony of winners of various online competitions was also held and winners shared their views about WED and their personal steps for the celebration of the same.

ENVIS Hub also actively participated in motivating the Eco-clubs of the region for celebrating the WED 2021 by developing the following resource material to disseminate information about WED into its networks through Social Media and Emails &WhatsApp .
