The Punjab Government will provide free electricity and water supply to 472 gaushalas in the state. Besides, biogas plants and bio-energy generation plants will be set up in the state.
This was stated by Kimti Bhagat, Chairman, Punjab Gau Sewa Commission, while speaking to mediapersons after presiding over the governing body meeting.
Bhagat said the state government would spend Rs 12 crore to facilitate gaushalas in the state. He said over 1 lakh unassisted cattle were wandering on the roads, and extra efforts were being made for their protection.
He said to protect unassisted cows in the state, new gaushalas spread over 25 acres would be constructed in each district at the cost of Rs 22 crore. As such, the work on constructing the boundary wall in 15 districts had been started.
Bhagat said a committee had been formed to remove encroachments from the areas of gaushalas.
He asked the officials concerned to ensure strict implementation of the Punjab Cow Slaughter Act, 1956, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The Deputy Directors of the Animal Husbandry Department have been deputed as cow welfare officers.
