Making A Difference By Being The Difference (MAD), a student activist group, has launched an innovative campaign, named as Green Vote Bank, in its bid to protect environment.
During the drive, which is both offline and online, the group is asking the voters to cast their votes in favour of political parties and candidates who envision environment conservation and sustainable development.
MAD has planned to enrol at least 10,000 committed voters in their bank.
The candidates, who would seek support of the green vote bank, will have to support environmental issues, such as revival of Dehradun's dying streams, protection of green cover, better sanitation and waste disposal system in their agenda for the election.
The environmental groups have also extended their support to MAD in this endeavor.
President of MAD,Abhijay Negi, said, "MAD's attempt is to galvanize the silent majority which expresses its momentary concern about the deteriorating condition of the eco-sensitive Doon valley. We will also actively use social media to popularize our call for the green vote bank and interact with people on public places as well.
"This way, we will reach out to at least ten thousand such voters in order to make them pledge to be part of green vote bank and decide their vote on the basis of the environmental conservation oriented vision proposed by the candidate."
